Ubuntu 8.10 -> 9.04 = SoundCard not working

I usually listen to music while working, and since I have Ubuntu on my box the soundcard is always busy.

This is the problem, finally I decided to upgrade my distro and the only real problem I had is that the sound just not come out of the box. Here is the solution for my Dell Precision-M2400, I guess it will work on most Dell computers:

1>Run the following commmand

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

2>Add the following text to it.

options snd-intel8x0 ac97_quirk=1 buggy_irq=1 enable=1 index=0

options snd-hda-intel model=3stack enable=yes

options snd-hda-intel model=auto position_fix=1 enable=yes

3>Save the file.

4>Rune the following commend :

sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart

5> It should work right now, but ,if not, try rebooting machine.
